On New Year's Eve 2015 my dad passed away. It was on New Year's Day I got word that he hadn't followed the rest of us into the new year. Even if I knew that he was in poor condition and that he might not have many years ahead of him, it still wasn't something I expected to happen so soon. In one way it feels good that he got a calm end and I know he appreciated his last time here with us but he leaves a great emptiness behind. With so much love given maybe it's not that strange that his heart couldn't manage more than 69 years.
The day after I got the message I sat down at the piano. I felt that I wanted to make something positive out of the situation. I kept playing the first melody that came to me, all the time thinking about dad. During that day and the day after a song took shape. I just wanted to play and sing something as honest as I could, for my dad. It became a way for me to deal with the grief and a way to speak to dad, to say all the things that I will never be able to say to him again. The song got the name "Loving Heart (Till pappa)" and was played at his funeral. I wish dad could have heard it, but without his passing it would never have been written.
On Valentine's Day 2016 the song was released as a digital single. This is my way of praising you and showing appreciation for having received the honor of being your son. I can not imagine a better father. I love you, dad!
